Cookie policy
Last updated 18 October 2026
The short version: we don't use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. We keep a few things in your browser's
storage so the site works, like keeping you signed in and remembering your settings. Nothing is used to track you across other sites.
What we store in your browser
These are all needed for the site to work, or to remember choices you've made, so we don't ask for consent to store them.
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-in session | Keeps you signed in. | Until you sign out (sign-ins last up to 90 days) |
| Theme and spelling choices | Remembers night mode and US or Aussie spelling, if you've changed them. | Until you clear them |
| Last map position | Opens the map where you last looked. | Until you clear it |
| Saved posts (offline) | Holds posts written without signal until they can be sent. | Until they're sent or discarded |
| Saved pages and map tiles | Lets the app load and work with poor or no signal on course. | Replaced with each update |
| Guest conversation links | Lets you get back to a conversation you started without an account. | Until you clear it |
| Prompt and notice dismissals | Stops us showing the install prompt or this notice again. | Until you clear it |
| Google sign-in check | A one-time value that keeps "Continue with Google" secure. | Until the browser tab is closed |
Other services
- Continue with Google: when you use it, Google and our sign-in provider (Amazon Cognito) set their own cookies on their sign-in pages to complete the sign-in. Those are covered by Google's cookie policy and Amazon's.
- Maps: map images and place search come from OpenStreetMap. Your browser requests them directly, which shares your IP address with OpenStreetMap (see our privacy policy).
Clearing it
You can clear this site's data at any time in your browser settings. You'll be signed out, your settings will reset, and any posts waiting to send without signal will be lost.
Changes
If we ever add anything optional, such as analytics, we'll update this page and ask for your consent first.
